Standing the test of time.

In the Midwest, we get all types of weather. September came in strong and hot, then made us all cold one week with a side of rain. Now we Omahaian’s are feeling the crisp autumn air and it’s showing. I smell more bonfires in our neighborhood. The pumpkin patches have opened up and today I saw organic pumpkin at Costco, so fall has officially arrived!

We’ve been in the swing of school for a few weeks now and have gotten a schedule down that works for us all. In case you did not know. We choose to homeschool. Not just because of a worldwide pandemic. But because kids grow up way too fast and what better way for me to use my teaching degrees than to teach our own littles for the time being. Late last Thursday evening, I decided to take the kids to Markman Pumpkin Patch. It must have been the pumpkin spice latte I had at HyVee that snapped out my summer mood into fall-ish desires because we haven’t looked back as summer trades her green leaves for cooler temps.

Our co-op took their first field trip of the school year to Washington County Historical Museum. I was fascinated by the original tile flooring in what use to be the town bank. Our company is dedicated to installing materials that will last decades. I often wonder how many of OUR projects could still be around in 100 years. I know my husband installs masterpieces weekly. His projects have the ability to withstand the test of time. But to SEE a 100 year old tile floor is honestly amazing. Check out this gorgeous floor! I am thoroughly impressed with the craftmanship poured into it. You must go see it for yourself! Here is their website to set up your own tour!

The tile floor doesn’t even look 100 years old! It was in beautiful condition.

I can’t leave without showing you all just a few of our latest projects. After all, this is the website of Phillips Tile & Stone. We are a family business. We know the importance of work/family balance. So I’m hoping you felt that in this blog post. 🙂

Wouldn’t it be amazing for these spaces we’ve installed were to be used and enjoyed for decades to come? That is our desire and wish for ALL who use our services.

May your September be full of pumpkin patches, apple orchards, yummy hot drinks and home remodels. Fall is my favorite season. So don’t be alarmed if you see a few more blog posts. 🙂 Soon the holidays will be here! The Midwest girl in me plans on enjoying this weather before it turns again.

Change is coming…

I’m seeing many fall lovers anxiously pull out their fall decorations. I love fall. We got married in the fall! But goodness, this Midwest girl wants to hang on to summer as long as I can! So instead of seeing all things fall on this post, you’ll see how we are hanging on to all things sunny and warm before we step into my favorite season, fall.

In addition to owning a business, we also homeschool. We have unofficially started the school year, because our kids ASKED to start school! If that doesn’t make a mama’s heart smile, I don’t know what would. So I obliged and we have slowly started incorporating school into our day. Our official start date will be after Labor Day weekend. Here is our 4th grader working hard on vocabulary words.

No matter how you are spending your last few weeks of summer, we hope you are all staying healthy and well. Soon, we will be ready to welcome fall! Let me savor these fleeting moments of summer. 🙂

Need Party Help?

I love planning parties! You know what else I love doing? Doing what I can to make my life easier while planning said parties. Sometimes I make the cake, sometimes I order it from a bakery. Sometimes I decorate for the party myself and sometimes I want something different (or easier). This past weekend, I had Party Ambiance out to decorate for our kid’s birthday party/heart anniversary! I first met Lena as I was talking to my neighbor in my front lawn. My neighbor said, “Well, look at all those balloons!” and I turned around and was warmly welcomed by Lena, who was carrying two large and fabulous balloon decorations for our party. She made the planning part easy and all online. The day I met her, she worked quickly in our home and left us party ready! I still stare at the creations she made and it’s been two days since she installed the balloons. They are just so FUN and happy! If you love having unique decorations for your parties, she is your gal!

Find her on Instagram!

Our kids and party guests loved it! I loved that I could take some ‘hats’ off my head. As a mama, we wear many hats. Party decorations does not need to be one of those hats. Thanks Party Ambiance!

Happy Birthday USA!

Are things starting to open up where you live? Are you ready to get some summer fun planned? Our family is gearing up for one of our favorite holidays. Where we get to wear all our favorite colors (legit red, white and blue are some of our family’s favorite colors) and eat delicious food. We love getting to spend time around our extended family and lighting off fireworks together! So go dig through your closet to find the most patriot outfit in anticipation of the celebration!

Now, if you are looking for a transportable side dish, look no further. This could even work as your main dish! If you are planning a camping trip this summer, I like to make a big bowl of this to take with us as it makes for an easy meal. My husband loves Italian subs and this dish calls for everything he’d normally put on his Italian sub sandwich.

Stay safe and Happy Birthday America!

*10 Year Business Anniversary & GIVEAWAY*

First of all, THANK YOU for allowing us to serve you these last 10 years. It has been our privilege to create beautiful spaces you love!

In June of 2010, as the job market was dwindling and the economy was tanking. Phillips Tile & Stone was born. Trevor had his first project the very weekend I was a matron of honor in a dear friend’s wedding. Her anniversary helps me remember the exact day otherwise we might not have remembered. So thanks for getting married Jason and Alisha! Love you guys! Happy 10 year wedded anniversary to you both, too!

We’ve slowly grown over the years. I guess you could say we learned about business as we were in business. Our logo was created 3 years later in 2013 by a sweet woman from our church. The Versailles tile pattern used on there was intentional as it was Michelle’s first Mother’s Day gift from Trevor. When we celebrated 5 years as a company, we were pleasantly shocked! To us, 5 years was huge! At year 7 Michelle finally sat down, with a newborn baby in her arms and created a website. All the while Trevor was hustling at creating masterpieces for our wonderful clients. In year 9 we become an LLC and officially added Michelle as a co-owner, another exciting milestone. We are so thankful for the business owners, home owners, fellow craftsman, designers, friends and family we’ve been able to assist along the way. It’s an honor we hold very dearly. Never in our dreams would we have imagined this would be how we put food on the table but we are loving the adventure!

To celebrate, we are having a giveaway on our business Instagram AND Facebook accounts! We hope you join in on the fun. If you haven’t figured this out yet, we appreciate you all so much!

So surreal! Thanks for letting us have our moment to celebrate!

Simple Mother’s Day Meal Idea

Mother’s Day is this coming Sunday. It’s possible to make this day special no matter the situation you find yourself in. If you are looking for inspiration keep reading. I’m all about finding ways to make celebrating easy but look exceptional. One way I’ve found to do that is Charcuterie Board Meals. My family loves charcuterie board dinners. Or lunches. You could even make a dessert style charcuterie board! Let your imagination soar as you make your grocery list and tailor it to your taste buds. Here are a few ideas to add to your grocery list.

  1. Cured meats. (my family loves roast beef, summer sausage and pepperoni)
  2. Cheese. (We are simple, Colby Cheese for the win! And lots of it!)
  3. Olives.
  4. Nuts.
  5. Dried Fruit.
  6. Crackers or baguette bread. (At least 2 types of crackers)
  7. Jelly, honey, mustard or jam.
  8. Pickles
  9. Cookies or chocolate pieces
  10. Guacamole, salsa and pita chips
  11. Hard boiled eggs

There are so many ways you could enjoy this easy meal, too. Outside on the patio, on a hike, as a picnic. It’s very transportable. Be sure to include the kids in the making and clean up process. Enjoy and Happy Mother’s Day!

Resurrection Rolls & an Easter Invite

Hello Friends!

Easter is my very favorite holiday, so I am preparing to celebrate Easter in my house come rain or shine! I’m determined, with a little bit of planning ahead, we can make this an enjoyable Easter. We’ve already dyed the Easter eggs. My husband came home to glitter all over the kitchen table. He said something about never using glitter again…we’ll see about that, but I’m in agreement with him. The glitter was probably a bad idea that seemed great at the time. It’s too bad I didn’t grab a picture of the glorious art and science projects our kids were doing while coloring eggs.

Come Sunday, you have two options as I see it. You can do away with the fancy dress clothes. Or wear them! You do you! I’m excited to dress my kids and I in our very BEST and comfiest clothes and Sunday morning we’re having cinnamon rolls. I’m actually really excited for this slow Easter morning. In Easter’s past, we have been involved in some sort of an Easter program. Which would mean we’d be up before the sun rose and tired after church. This Sunday, let’s all enjoy the slow morning. I’ll make cinnamon rolls and scrambled cheesy eggs for my family while I brew myself some coffee. Our church is having a wonderful service online. We’d love to have you “join us” in attending the service!

We’ll have an Easter egg hunt in our backyard and wave at the neighbors. We’ll have the crockpot simmering as we plan on enjoying each other’s company. It will be an Easter I’ll never forget.

If you’ve never had resurrection rolls, these are an easy treat that I’ve been making since childhood. They are gooey, easy and so good. Just grab marshmallows, butter, sugar, cinnamon and crescent roll dough at your weekly store grocery shopping trip.

Resurrection Rolls Recipe– I guarantee your whole family will enjoy making and eating these.

Enjoy the rest of your week, friends. We are thankful for you. We are thankful for a Risen Savior!

Happy Easter,

-Michelle Phillips
