The Facts

Is it safe to assume, we all enjoy getting to know more about a company and a little bit about it’s backstory? I’ve been told it’s never safe to assume, however, there are some new faces around here and that means a short introduction to our small business. Here are a few facts about Phillips Tile & Stone you might not know!

-Our company was created during the height of the recession in 2010. Yes, that was a nail biting time to create a company, however, a true entrepreneur creates what they do not find.

-Does anyone remember the year 2010? Because of the time when our company was created, we never took out any loans to create Phillips Tile & Stone so we have slowly grown. As business owners, we have felt all the feels as we navigate a recession and a pandemic. We are thankful. There isn’t any other word for it. Thankful.

-Those early years we relied solely on word of mouth marketing. Our clients are the best and continue to be the best!! Do you want to know something interesting? Roughly 70% of our projects are STILL from word of mouth referrals, that is incredible. YOU all are amazing! We will say it again, our clients are the best.

-We are a family business. We are a husband and wife team with a talented construction crew and incredible sub contractors.

-As a small business, we adore being able to create jobs for our community. Do you know of a talented craftsman looking for a career? Send them our way!

-We value excellent craftsmanship and integrity. One Hundred Percent.

-To say we are grateful for the opportunity to serve Omaha and the surrounding areas, would be putting it mildly. It makes our hearts burst knowing the past 10.5 years we’ve had the honor of creating beautiful spaces our clients love!

As you get to know our small business we hope you hear gratitude and a desire to continue making our small business BETTER. For our clients and our employees. We consider it an honor to serve you!

Merry Christmas from the Phillips!

What a year 2020 has been.

If it’s alright with you, I’d like to share 10 things we are thankful for that happened in 2020 for our family and Phillips Tile & Stone. As a small, family business, we have felt all the feels this year. Growth, stretching, momentum, tiredness and lots of hard work are some words I would use to describe this year. Here are 10 things we are thankful for this year.

  1. Our rainbow baby boy was born! He came fast and furiously on February 26th, right before the world was paused. We are so thankful for him!
  2. We were able to still participate in Awana at our church. The older four kids enjoy it and Trevor enjoys being a Sparks Leader.
  3. We created a co-op! It has been such a blessing as we homeschool and we weren’t sure how the school year would look. Creating this group has been such a good outlet for both fun and educational.
  4. Phillips Tile & Stone won Best of Omaha Tile Installer! Thank YOU to all who voted. We work hard to make our clients happy!
  5. We made a few more of our own home improvements.
  6. Our family was able take a couple short vacations. One was glamping in a beautiful cabin by a lake with wonderful friends and the other was to The Elms. It was so refreshing to have these short getaways!
  7. Phillips Tile & Stone turned 10 years old and we celebrated with local giveaways on our FB and IG accounts!
  8. Trevor and Michelle celebrated 11 years of marriage.
  9. Trevor coached baseball while our older two played. The boys also were able to play soccer and continue piano lessons.
  10. Through everything that happened this year, we were still able to work and provide service to our clients while providing for our family, our employees and their families! We are grateful. So grateful. Thank you to all our clients this year!!

This year we saw God provide again and again. No matter how your Christmas looks this year, remember that the Savior of the world was born in a lowly stable. He was born to die for my sin and yours. You are loved by Him. Jesus is worthy to be praised!

Merry Christmas from The Phillips and Phillips Tile & Stone!

We are thankful for you!

This year, as a small and local family owned business, we are feeling extra thankful for you!

While Thanksgiving this year might look different than it did last year, we are counting our blessings. Everyday, we work hard to cultivate a construction company that our families and clients can be proud of. We, as a family of 7, personally wanted to THANK YOU for continuing to support this dream of small business owning. We have some additional services that we plan to be rolling out for 2021. So hold on to your socks. 🙂

We hope you take time today to reflect on what you are grateful for. We would love to hear from you and what makes you thankful.

Enjoy your Thanksgiving day, friends!

The Phillips Family

We are thankful for our bundle of love that was added to our family in 2020.

Thanksgiving Prep – Cinnamon Bread Recipe

Who else loves gathering around a table with family and friends to enjoy wonderful food? I know I’m not alone in basking in the warmth a meal with loved ones can bring. I’m convinced a beautiful table, rich conversation and mouth watering food can brighten anyone’s day! As I start to *think* about what I’d like to prepare, this simple quick bread comes to mind. I use to make it weekly. It’s easy and so good! Add some real butter and you’ve got yourself a real winner.

It’s always fun to listen to others’ Thanksgiving plans. So many unique traditions are held, there’s no ‘right way’ to usher in the Thanksgiving feast. Whether you enjoy a Taco bar, and forget the Turkey, or play a solid game of tackle football before your meal. Every family celebrates in their own unique way.

In Omaha, the weather is getting cooler. We’ve pulled up the garden and prepped it for winter. In years past, it’s always been difficult to say goodbye to warm months and come to grips with winter making her grand entrance. It’s different for me this year. I’m embracing the seasonal change without a grumpy attitude and looking forward to hunkering down with my family these next few months. My son says I’m getting older, I think getting older might also mean you learn to make the best of everything. Like arming yourself for winter with new soup recipes, board games, puzzles and indoor projects to last the next four months. Whatever the case, I’m ready to share this warm quick bread that you can easily bake and serve to eat during a card game. My kids love to play Sleeping Queens. It’s a great card game and Amazon carrys it. You definitely need to add it to your game closet. 🙂

The Amazing Cinnamon Bread (that’s what I call it anyway!)

CINNAMON BREAD (makes 2 loaves)
Batter:
1 cup butter, softened

2 cups sugar

2 eggs

2 cups buttermilk or 2 cups milk plus 2 tablespoons vinegar or lemon juice

4 cups flour

2 teaspoons baking soda
Cinnamon/sugar mixture:
2/3 cups sugar

2 teaspoons cinnamon  (I do add more cinnamon and sugar as I feel is needed. It’s called cooking with love. )

Cream together butter, 2 cups of sugar, and eggs.  Add milk, flour, and baking soda.  Put 1/2 of batter (or a little less) into greased loaf pans (1/4 in each pan).  Mix in separate bowl the 2/3 c sugar and cinnamon.  Sprinkle 3/4 of cinnamon mixture on top of the 1/2 batter in each pan.  Add remaining batter to pans; sprinkle with last of cinnamon topping.  Swirl with a knife.  Bake at 350 degrees for 45-50 min.  or until toothpick tester come clean.   Cool in pan for 20 minutes before removing from pan.

I have also made this bread in muffin tins which made it a little easier to freeze and take out as needed.
ENJOY!!!
